3. He has some decent size

It’s one thing to have a solid package of point guard skills, which it seems like Caruso has. But it’s even better if that package comes in a bigger size.

Caruso stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 186 pounds. He’s not the strongest lead guard in the NBA, but being taller than a good number of other point guards sure has its advantages.

For one, it’s easier to get good looks offensively against your man. It’s also easier to see over the defense and hit the open man or simply read and react to the other team.

But arguably the biggest advantage of being a 6-foot-5 point guard is on the defensive end. It makes it easier for him to contest shots and stay in front of his man.

During the 18-game streak I referenced, he averaged 1.3 steals in 28.0 minutes per game. Not too shabby.

He may never be named to the NBA All-Defensive Team, but he does seem to bring the effort and give it all he has on the defensive end. That’s all you can really ask of a player, right?

As the saying goes, hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

The fact that Caruso is 6-foot-5 also doesn’t exactly hurt his ability to pull off the occasional highlight-reel play, like this one against Golden State.
