1. He’s inexpensive
Speaking of the Lakers’ cap situation, they’ve done a bang-up job of filling out their roster with guys who apparently took less money yet can contribute in a positive manner.
Caruso is signed for two years at a total of $5.5 million. They could’ve gone out and signed a different backup point guard for insurance but would’ve likely had to shell out much more dough.
They now have a deep roster, and many of these guys were signed to relatively team-friendly deals. A few of them, like Caruso, DeMarcus Cousins, Cook, Troy Daniels and KCP have the opportunity to earn bigger contracts in the near future, whether it’s with the Lakers or another team, but playing well or even taking their game to the next level.
If Caruso continues to develop, he could end up delivering greater value than $5.5 million over two seasons would suggest.
