Cross Off The Celtics For a While:

Kyrie Irving departing from Boston is wonderful news for their arch-rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers. Last season, the Boston Celtics made it to the Eastern Conference Finals without both Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, who were presumably the team’s two best players.

In addition to their star talent, the Celtics had promising young assets. This made the Celtics look like the team next in line to dethrone the Warriors, and way ahead in the race between the Lakers to winning another NBA championship. One year later and all of that has changed. The Celtics lost their star point guard for nothing and the Lakers are in arguably the best position to win the 2020 NBA Championship.

The Celtics also missed out on Anthony Davis to the Lakers. Boston’s future draft picks aren’t as valuable as they once were, either. They did, however, sign Kemba Walker to a multi-year deal, which makes the Celtics a solid team, but don’t expect them to be competing for championships anytime soon. Not to mention, the Celtics also lost Al Horford and Terry Rozier who were both key components to the team’s roster. Lakers fans are ecstatic because their team looks like it could surpass the Celtics in total championship banners within the next few seasons.
