The end of the bench
Rajon Rondo, Troy Daniels, and Quinn Cook ought to be out of the main rotation next season.
Outside of Talen Horton-Tucker, who’ll probably get assigned to the Lakers G-League affiliate, Rajon Rondo is the worst player on the squad. He is awful on defense and he’s scared to shoot the ball from deep. He should serve as a mentor to the young players on the Lakers.
Even though Troy Daniels and Quinn Cook won’t be in the Lakers regular rotation, they both bring value to the team in the form of 3-point shooting.
Most teams use either a nine or ten-man rotation during the regular season, but there’s no reason the Lakers can’t try to squeeze some minutes in for Daniels and Cook.
It’s easy to see both players getting spot minutes next season on days that LeBron James rests or during times when a player like KCP or Alex Caruso can’t buy a bucket from deep.
After everything is said and done, Troy Daniels and Quinn Cook should be able to average five to seven minutes per game next year.
The Lakers are in a very interesting position, because Rob Pelinka built one of the deepest squads in the NBA. One of the most fascinating storylines leading up to the start of next year’s regular season will be how Frank Vogel and Jason Kidd deploy their surplus of troops.
