Los Angeles Lakers: Where does this team rank in the post-free agency power rankings?
21. Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors will fall quickly; Leonard chose to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, nixing his former team’s hope of returning to defend the title in the postseason; Danny Green, who shot 46 percent from three-point land bolted for the Lakers.
What’s left? It’s Kyle Lowry, Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka on the downsides of their respective careers. Yes, Pascal Siakam won Most Improved Player of the Year, but who’s going to emerge with him? Toronto will need to trade its older talent for young legs just to compete for a postseason spot.
20. Minnesota Timberwolves
On paper, the Minnesota Timberwolves should perform a lot better than their results have shown in recent years. Based on talent, this is a balanced roster with two former No. 1 overall picks in Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns.
Wiggins has struggled with scoring efficiency, his field-goal percentages have dropped since the 2015-16 campaign. He shot 41 percent from the field last season. Towns needs another wingman to propel the Timberwolves to the next level. Perhaps the front office picked up a gem in rookie guard Jarrett Culver.
19. Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings have a budding talent in De’Aaron Fox; he could reach an All-Star level with more range on his shot. This roster also features some underrated playmakers. Buddy Hield has developed into a sharpshooter, and Bogdan Bogdanović provides versatility at the 2. Trevor Ariza adds veteran savvy and length.
Assuming Marvin Bagley III stays healthy, the Kings have the assets to become a surprise team in the West. However, turnover in the coaching ranks may delay their ascension as Luke Walton takes over for Dave Joerger.
