18. Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers could experience a slow start to the 2019-20 season. According to Matthew VanTryon of the Indianapolis Star, team president Kevin Pritchard expects Victor Oladipo to miss a few months. “I’m hopeful that he’s going to be back in December, January,” Pritchard said. “To put a true timeline is not really fair.”

In January, Oladipo ruptured a quad tendon in his right knee. The Pacers went 16-19 without him, staggered into the postseason, and the Boston Celtics swept them in the first round. Despite adding Malcolm Brogdon to the backcourt, Indiana will struggle early without its star player.

17. Detroit Pistons

When Blake Griffin plays through most of the season, he’s performs at an All-Star level. Last year, the 30-year-old earned his sixth nod and appeared in 75 contests, averaging 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists per outing.

Andre Drummond can dominate the paint and protect the rim, but the Pistons need Reggie Jackson to show more consistency and a wing player to emerge on the offensive end. The Pistons ranked 25th in scoring during the 2018-19 campaign. Who’s going to match Griffin on the offensive end?

16. Orlando Magic

Head coach Steve Clifford led the Orlando Magic to a surprising playoff appearance last season, breaking the franchise’s six-year postseason drought. The front office kept their roster intact and re-signed Nikola Vucevic following his first All-Star appearance.

The Magic acquired 2017 No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz in February. Whatever he provides seems like a bonus, but if the 21-year-old can shake off his shooting woes, Orlando could push for a No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the East.
