When talking about Anthony Davis, a lot of the attention goes to his skill set on the offensive end of the court. The numbers certainly indicate that Davis is an elite offensive player, as he can do it all on that end of the court. As a big man, Davis’ ability to punish defenders from the inside, outside, or off the dribble, makes him one of the most unique players in the NBA.

However, Davis is arguably even better on the defensive end of the court. In his career, Davis is averaged 2.4 blocks and 1.4 steals per game. For a center or power forward, those are excellent numbers. Only in his rookie season, did Davis not average at least two blocks per game. Not even counting shots that he redirects with his length, Davis is clearly an elite rim protector.

Last season, the Lakers’ struggles began when the defense fell off. Having an elite rim protector like Davis will help the Lakers immensely on that end of the court. While there were a lot of improvements at the perimeter on the defensive end as well, Davis can help erase any mistakes. Davis has made the All-Defensive team three times in his career so far. Now, its time for Davis to get the Defensive Player of the Year award.
