LeBron James is once again in the news for his actions during his son’s AAU tournament. Jason Whitlock had a scalding take about the situation.

I want to start this with a statement to LeBron James: Man I didn’t know you had it like this. I mean people really sweat you like gym socks! Dude can’t even be a father to his kids right for some people.

LeBron James is a different public figure. It took one weekend for LeBron James to go to a basketball tournament and support his son to spend some quality father/son time together. Nothing wrong here right? A lot of dads do that.

By the end of the weekend, it turned into one of the biggest sports debates on social media and into one of the worst sports takes of all time.

It was so bad, even Kyle Kuzma went at him on Twitter.

Then Whitlock clapped back about Kuzma’s relationship with Kendall Jenner. I knew that the Kardashian curse article was good for something!

This is no joke and what’s more, it’s sad. What’s even worse, I fully understand what is going on and can explain it so clearly everyone reading this will understand and be even more disgusted.

Rarely do I disagree so strongly with someone in the sports media with the business being smaller than most people think. But his comparisons were so bad, I felt I should write something. When I saw the clip on social media, I only thought one thing.

Oh, I guess July ratings is still in effect. This wasn’t a big deal to me. But what does it mean to people who don’t know what it means? Well, ratings in television and cable mean this.

Any media outlet bases its success around numbers. But there are four months out of the year that TV pays particular attention to their broadcasts. Those months are February, May, November and yes you guessed it, July.

If the numbers are struggling for a certain rating period compared to the competition (FS-1’s chief competition is ESPN) sometimes a certain story or hot take (Need an example? Press play again above!) is needed for a much-needed boost to a particular show. That video has 2.4 million views and counting.

Over a year ago, Laura Ingraham used her platform much as Jason Whitlock did on his, to criticize LeBron James for shock value.

This happened in February 2018, a rating period.

Well, it didn’t work out as well as Ms. Ingraham planned. LeBron used her words as a title for his docu-series on Showtime.

While the comment started a series of events that hurt Fox News in their sponsorship wallets.

With that being said, there is one thing that people on this planet needs to understand.

LeBron James has the media game figured out and it is sitting on top of the mountain.

LeBron James is the most powerful sports figure on the planet right now and the most influential NBA player in history. This is not about statistics anymore, this is about clout.

LeBron James knows enough about Jason Whitlock to keep the LeBron James brand rolling right along. The attention alone from that statement put money in LeBron James’ pockets.

As a father of three sons, I’m trying to figure out what in the world did the man do that was so wrong? Let’s all look back to last weekend and figure it out.

LeBron James joins the lay-up line and starts dunking the basketball!

Ladies and gentlemen of the fan base of the Los Angeles Lakers jury of internet opinion. I, Ronald Agers, will try to prove that LeBron James did nothing any other father would have done in any  Parks and Recreational basketball game. What’s the difference between LeBron and the other fathers?

He’s a professional basketball player that can jump out of the gym while others shoot lay-ups and miss half of them.

Look, it is no secret that ESPN tends to check in on what LeBron James is doing from time to time. Even the personalities make jokes about it from time to time.

But when LeBron James made an innocent enough decision to join the lay-up line with his son’s team, well the media storm had grown to epic proportions when there is no NBA news on the horizon.

Outside of the wave cap (Inside joke, I think we all know LeBron’s hairline is receding!), I am not seeing an issue here.

It seems that the fans are hyped and I know the kids do not mind. Plus as a bonus, I noticed that Trick daddy’s song “Take it to the house” was playing in the background. It’s a song that is usually played to provide energy to the sports environment.

But is there extra benefits to LeBron James supporting his son at an AAU event? Let’s look at what the professionals think. Marcellus Wiley makes a great point.

For the record, I haven’t dunked a basketball in 20 years. But best believe if I could dunk a basketball with the force of LeBron James in front of my kids, I would do it every chance I could get.

Why? Because my kids think it’s cool. But you know the game hasn’t started yet right?

Okay, maybe LeBron James messed up here. Tie your shoes tighter next time!

I’m joking here. But let me get this straight, LeBron James watches his son catch an alley-oop from his teammate who put sauce on the pass with one hand? Where’s the crime here. I’m trying to find anyone who wouldn’t go plum idiot after that.

No check that, I’m trying to find someone who wouldn’t go plum idiot catching it themselves, forget their child.

Anyone that thinks this is a problem does not watch AAU or Pro-Am games. This happens all the time. Let’s break down the so-called crime, shall we?

I thought this was hilarious. A father that was so proud of his son he jumped out of his shoe to celebrate was so cool to me. But this is a debate?

Outside of making sure he doesn’t slide on his sock and aggravate his groin again there is no issue here. The man is proud of his son who probably gets up to train with him and sees him achieving a level not many human beings achieve athletically.

Think I’m wrong? Go out to a basketball and catch an alley-oop and dunk it and come back and finish reading this article. I’ll wait.

Oh, by the way, Bronny’s team won the game which matters more to me than a dunk. LeBron even celebrated the victory with the team.

Yes Lakers fans, just when you thought LaVar Ball’s name had left the building.

Look, there is nobody that respects LaVar Ball’s hustle more than I do. For a span of a few years, he had the strongest hype act in sports. Like it or not, he was the Lakers fan-base’s guide into everything that was wrong with the Los Angeles Lakers last year.

But to compare LeBron James to what LaVar Ball was doing with Lonzo in a Lakers uniform or LaMelo playing for the Drew League is dead wrong on so many levels.

LaVar Ball was trying to start-up a business based on what Lonzo did on the basketball court. He used his son’s celebrity to obtain some of his own. LeBron James is the exact opposite.

LeBron James already has his empire. By the time he retires, his portfolio will probably be over $1 billion. LeBron James is doing what any father (Walter Agers at the top of the list!) would do to help his son succeed. Anyone that thinks that LeBron James is using his son to get unnecessary shine is way off base.

The NBA starts in a matter of months. LeBron James likes his attention but to be as narcissistic enough to exploit his own child? Come on now.

To the “Glass Houses” that are criticizing LeBron James, how’s your parenting skills?

It’s no secret that LeBron James grew up in a single-parent household without a father figure. It’s no secret that kids in the African-American community have some of the same challenges as LeBron James growing up. It seems that media outlets and society look at this as problems that lead to crime, drugs, alcohol, etc.

Okay, LeBron James spends let’s say about eight months out of the year concentrating on playing NBA basketball. Throw in USA obligations in years past, time away from the family increases. It’s summertime and LeBron has taken full advantage to reconnect with the family.

This is yet another stereotype that LeBron James is trying to knockdown. He has made up his mind that he will be the father to his son that he never the opportunity to have.

You don’t think Bronny and his teammates (Some who may not have fathers, who knows!) will remember this moment forever?

When you start bashing LeBron James for this weekend. Ask yourself these questions.

Did Archie Manning throw the football around with Eli and Peyton?

How about Dell Curry? Think he didn’t have shooting exhibitions with Steph and Seth?

Look I’m the first guy to get on LeBron’s case on the court if he does not get give full effort on the court. Missed rotations? I’m there. Power moves in the locker room? Article up. But off the court, there is nobody in the NBA that uses his platform better than LeBron James. As for domestic problems reported. Good luck finding anything.

I’ll end this the same way I tell anyone criticizing athletes parenting styles. If you weren’t around for the 4:00 AM feedings and diaper changes.

Mind your business.
