6. LeBron James and Anthony Davis (2019-20) – TBD
The moment Lakers fans have been waiting for the past six seasons is finally here. They are title contenders once again because Anthony Davis has been added to a roster that already includes LeBron James.
This duo is ranked so low on this list because they have yet to play together or prove anything in the purple in gold, but they are already statistical legends in their own right, so they needed to make an appearance on the list.
Neither Anthony Davis or LeBron James have played with a player that is capable of being better than themselves on any given night, and that is why this pairing is so intriguing. The best player Davis played alongside was Cousins and he is a big man rather than a player that can help him create shots, like LeBron can.
It is obvious that the two players have wanted to play together for the past couple of seasons, and it became even more evident around the trade deadline last season. Davis flat demanded a trade from the Pelicans to play with James, and LBJ was quoted during the All-Star draft after drafting Davis that he “would love to have him as a teammate.”
Well, they are together now, and these two are going to be a nightmare on the pick and roll for the rest of the league. They might be the best tandem the NBA has to offer right now, and having both of them on the roster instantly catapults the Lakers from being a fringe playoff contender into perhaps the title favorites heading into this season.
If it were not for all the great Lakers pairings that won championships together, this dynamic duo could easily rank at the top of the list. But they are going to have to prove it on the court this season to jump up this list anytime soon.
