NBA training camps open the end of this month, and Los Angeles Lakers fans can’t wait. There is much to be excited about, particularly the arrival of one of the league’s best players, Anthony Davis.

Many things about the upcoming Los Angeles Lakers season are easy to predict, including these:

Anthony Davis will almost certainly average over 25 points and 10 rebounds a game.

He and LeBron James will form one of the best one-two punches in the NBA, quite possibly at a historical level.

Danny Green should provide excellent perimeter defense. Along with several other teammates, he should also help vastly improve one of the Lakers biggest weaknesses the last several years, their three-point shooting.

Barring something totally unforeseen, such as a rash of injuries to key players, the Lakers should certainly qualify for the postseason for the first time since 2013.

If things come together as hoped for the Lakers, they may well make a long run in the playoffs, and even contend for the championship for the first time in nine seasons.

However, in the course of an NBA season, there are always several unexpected developments that few fans really anticipated. Injuries are of course one unpredictable category. But it’s often hard to forecast which players below all-star level will stand out and which won’t.

With that in mind, here is an attempt to make three surprising predictions about the Lakers in 2019-20:
