– Keep the starting job
One of the top training camp battles before the season will be for the starting center position. JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard will potentially be battling it out to see who starts for the Lakers next season.
With McGee entering his second season with Los Angeles, he figures to be the favorite. McGee did very well in this role last season, and he will be hoping to keep his starting spot. While McGee did have a good season last year, there is a new coaching staff in Los Angeles. McGee will have to continue to impress the new staff for the Lakers, and he will have some stiff competition for the spot.
The addition of Dwight Howard was certainly an interesting one for the Lakers. Howard didn’t have a good first stint with the Lakers, but he appears to be hungry to right some of the wrongs. Howard has been bouncing around the NBA the past few seasons, and his reputation isn’t very good right now. However, he has been saying and doing all the right things in Los Angeles so far.
As a potential Hall-of-Famer one day, Howard’s prime was better than that of McGee’s. However, Howard isn’t that same player he once was. If this is indeed a true camp battle, the two might push each other to be the best they can be at this point in their careers.
