Los Angeles Lakers: 3 Goals for JaVale McGee in 2019-20 season
By Nick Ziegler
– Replicate last season
The summer of 2018 turned out to have some very mixed results for the Los Angeles Lakers. Getting LeBron James was a huge addition for the Lakers. Adding James gave them a superstar that might eventually help them win a championship. However, they didn’t have the success they would have envisioned last season.
Part of the reason for the Lakers not having the success they wanted to last season was because of injuries. If the Lakers didn’t get mangled by injuries, things might have gone differently last season.
However, one of the other reasons why things didn’t work out was because of the summer additions. Guys like Lance Stephenson, Rajon Rondo, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Michael Beasley didn’t live up to their expectations. However, the one player that did was JaVale McGee.
In his first season with the Lakers, McGee averaged 12.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in just over 22 minutes per game. These were great numbers for McGee as the starting center for the Lakers.
While we don’t know what exactly McGee’s role will be on the Lakers next season, Vogel will have to play him if he performs like he did last year. After showing what he can do when given the chance, there is no reason why McGee can’t replicate last season for the Lakers in 2019-20.
