Los Angeles Lakers: 5 reasons why they will miss Brandon Ingram
By Robert Marvi
3. His ability to finish at or near the rim
Read this in your best Hubie Brown voice: One thing we know about Brandon Ingram is that he has the ability to get high-percentage shots inside of the painted area.
Seriously though, despite his “Slenderman” frame and build, Ingram has deceiving explosiveness. His first step is better than a casual observer may expect, and when given a bit of daylight, he can extend, explode and finish strong at the cup.
This past season he made 68.1 percent of his shots three feet or less from the hoop. Most elite finishers in the league shoot in the 70s from that range, which means that Ingram is almost at that level, at least statistically.
It also seems to refute the criticism that he’s just an iso player who shoots only mid-range shots.
As a 6-foot-9 small forward, Ingram not only has the length to be an elite defender, but to also give guys all sorts of problems on the offensive end, especially in – get out your Hubie Brown impression again – the “paint-ed area.”
