There are enough young players on this roster to make fans say Lonzo and Brandon who?
No disrespect to Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram, who are both doing very well in New Orleans this preseason. But the narrative that the Lakers do not have players for the future is not true. Most of the veterans that joined LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the bench included Danny Green, Avery Bradley and Rajon Rondo.
With these veterans on the bench opened up possibilities for some unknown players to get noticed. Here are some players that put in solid performances.
Devontae Cacok:
Lakers fans, this dude is tough and plays hard all of the time. Cacok played a hard 29 minutes which included a hard shot to the ribs to score 16 points and banged the paint for 6 rebounds. Remember, Cacok is only 6’7′ and was at times bullying his man under the boards.
Do you really think Alfonzo McKinnie is going to mess with him here?

You can see his activity rolling to the basket, not just watching David Stockton dribble the ball around. He made himself available and finished the play with a slam dunk.
Speaking of David Stockton.
David Stockton:
In his first taste of extended minutes on the floor, the son of Hall of Famer, John Stockton didn’t disappoint. Assists must run in the Stockton family because David led the Lakers in assists with seven. He also scored 10 points, including knocking a couple of shots down from 3-point land. He needs to take the ball a little bit stronger to the basket on layups. On a fast break he got a lay up pinned to the back board.
His impact was in the 4th quarter when the Warriors made things interesting. Jackson scored 11 points but the majority of them was in the last five minutes. He knocked down a 3-pointer, hit a sweet reverse layup and rebounded the ball that started the Lakers fast break finishing with easy scores that put the Warriors away.
Mark it down, Los Angeles Lakers fans. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will be the most frustrating enigmatic Laker on the roster. He can have a spectacular play here and there, but his shooting and overall defense are so inconsistent, it will cause the Twitter to crash based on fans’ furious tweets.
Now he can make the highlight reels catching alley oop dunks.
Or he can make Steph Curry look like Michael Cooper.
KCP shot only 4-fir-12 for 11 points. His defense was better but it was clear that the Lakers defense was geared to stop Curry and nobody else. The Lakers announcers had a discussion on Caldwell-Pope needing to play well when it matters.
It’s a fact not lost on many Lakers fans.
