3. Attack the rim

The Spurs are one of the worst rim-protecting teams in the league, ranking 29th in opponent field goal percentage at the rim at 66.4%. In fact, the Spurs are pretty bad defensively at basically every spot on the floor, ranking 26th in midrange defense, and 26th in 3-point defense.

One person who is probably not happy with these numbers is head coach Gregg Popovich, who has always coached the Spurs with a defense-first mentality. But the team simply lacks the roster to make any kind of impact defensively.

Yes, they have Dejounte Murray, who made 2nd Team All-Defense in just his second year in the league, and LaMarcus Aldridge who is a better post defender than people give him credit for, but beyond that, the team is stacked with defensive liabilities.

DeMar DeRozan, Patty Mills, Rudy Gay, Trey Lyles are all below average defenders and the Lakers have enough offensive versatility to score in a variety of ways.

The Lakers are one of the best teams when it comes to scoring at the rim, ranking 3rd in frequency, and 2nd in accuracy, so the team needs to be aggressive in this department and exploit this particular weakness in the Spurs defense.
