Breaking News to Lake Show Life! Here’s your early front-runner for MVP…LeBron James!

LeBron James is the best player in the NBA right now. Period. If the Spurs matchup does not convince you, nothing will. Let’s just get history out-of-the-way real quick. LBJ passed the 9,000 rebound mark in his career. He passed former Dallas Mavericks and Laker, Derek Harper on the all-time NBA steals list. Does it ever stop with this guy?

In the game, LeBron James tallied up 33 points and 14 assists in 36 minutes. No other Lakers player tallied up these types of stats in that time frame in franchise history. Dude’s balling folks.

Coming into the game, the storyline is about LeBron James not getting foul calls to get to the line against Memphis. Here’s what he said after the game courtesy of ESPN.

"“But that can’t stop me,” James said of the no-calls. “It didn’t stop me tonight. No matter what I got to continue to go, but being able to get to the free throw line is something that allows our defense to get in good position. It sets our defense. It slows the game down at times. It gives us a good rhythm. It relaxes me as well. So I know I’m getting hit, but at the end of the day, I just got to keep going.”"

Last season, there could have been smirks when LeBron talked to the media (Playoff Mode anyone?). This is a new year and this dude is walking it as he talks it now. He tripped that playoff mode thing two games into the season.

He was aggressive and he drove the ball early and often. He hit his first lay-up and missed the next lay-up. Then, well he went off.

LeBron James crossed Rudy Gay over and dunked the ball with relative ease. Why? It was because LaMarcus Aldridge backed way out of the play and provided no resistance. If you thought that play was impressive, this play basically says it all. It’s like he’s really trying to get a tryout for the L.A. Rams or something.

Touchdown Rams, err I mean Lakers. Like he did in a ton in Miami, he took off after the shot went up and received a perfect pass from Rajon Rondo for a slam dunk. By the way, he was fouled. No call.

Here’s why LeBron is playing the best ball in the NBA. He influenced the game in two different ways in separate halves.

In the first half, he carried the team with his scoring when Anthony Davis was saddled with foul trouble and Danny Green was M.I.A. In the second half, LeBron collected 13 of his 14 assists to set his teammates up to keep the Spurs at bay.

If that wasn’t enough, he closed out the game scoring 12 points in the last frame. With the five assists in the quarter, at last count, he was responsible for 21 points for the Lakers.

By the time he was done, he heard MVP chants in the building. Aren’t the Lakers on a road trip?

That’s the point.
