Alec Burks
Alec Burks signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder on a veteran’s minimum deal this past offseason. The team employed Russell Westbrook and Paul George still at the time, Burks wanted to play for a contender to try and win a ring. George and Westbrook were traded and OKC gave Burks a chance to re-think, he went and signed with Golden State.
The Warriors have fallen out of contention very quickly this season. They’ve racked up injury by injury and now seem like they’re destined for a top-three draft pick. With them looking towards the future, they will more then likely have a list of trade partners for Burks services.
The veteran has stepped up this season with many players out. He has showed that he still has what it takes to provide scoring for a team. He will get his chance to prove that for a contender when the Warriors feel like the best deal comes along.
Burks has put up a very solid line this season of 15 points 4.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in 21 games played. His shooting splits are 42/35/87.8 which are very respectable at his position.
His offensive rating is 100.2 and his defensive rating is 109.6. Both those numbers are concerning, but you have to figure the Warriors are in tanking mode at the moment. Not many players have positive numbers on that team, as there isn’t much to go around.
Burks would be a tremendous fit and motivated to play on the Lakers. He would provide them with solid bench scoring and a savvy veteran. If all goes well this season the Lakers could bring him back cheap next year as well, as he looks to find winning over money at this point in his career.
This would be a deal like the one for Noel that ships out Horton-Tucker. It may seem risky but the time is ticking on LeBron to raise a banner in LA and Horton-Tucker could be a trade chip. With limited assets after the AD trade they need all that they can get in resources.
