2.) LeBron James wins MVP, Anthony Davis wins DPOY
We all want to see it, and the stellar play of LeBron James and Anthony Davis so far have made winning these awards a potential reality. For LeBron, winning an MVP award for three different teams will be a huge factor in his legacy, as no other player in NBA history has accomplished this feat.
Giannis is currently running away with the MVP and is very deserving of the award, but what LeBron James has been doing in his 17th season is nothing short of remarkable.
On the season, James is averaging 25.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and a league-leading 10.6 assists per game. If the Lakers can maintain their grasp on the one spot in the Western Conference, it’s going to be tough for voters to not consider rewarding the King one last time.
For Davis, winning the DPOY will be a huge validation in the eyes of media members and fans that he is an elite defender. Anyone who watches basketball semi-regularly knows about his impact on the defensive end, but having the hardware to back it up is just as important in this current media landscape.
With reigning DPOY Rudy Gobert having a down year with the Utah Jazz, and no other real contenders stepping in, it would appear that the award is Davis’ to lose.
