Allow Anthony Davis to truly take the reins post-All-Star break
James made it very clear at the beginning of the season that he is handing the reins over to Anthony Davis and allowing him to be the man on this team.
During his time with the Miami Heat, LeBron James made the transformation from the most talented player in the league to a cold-blooded killer. During his 1st season with Miami, it became very clear that while LeBron was the best player, it was still very much Dwyane Wade’s team.
After falling to the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, a lot of soul-searching occurred for the big 3 in Miami. No one more so than Wade.
Wade understood that for the Heat to be the best version of themselves, he would have to take a back seat and let LeBron become the player he was always meant to be. In the end, it worked out well and with two championships in 4 seasons, Wade’s decision to defer to LeBron was warranted.
While LeBron said he is handing the reins over, it still seems like it very much is LeBron’s team and he is “The Guy”. While to start the season this has been perfect for the Lakers as they have racked up win after win, going into the 2nd part of the season it makes a lot more sense for LeBron to hand the keys to Anthony Davis and allow him to dominate even more post-All-Star break.
Davis, when he is fully healthy and hitting on all cylinders, is an unstoppable juggernaut. While Davis started the season relatively slowly, he is fully getting into his stride with the purple and gold.
He is already the favorite so far this season to be Defensive Player of the year. If he can turn it on even more after the All-Star break he can make a serious run for MVP.
If he can take over, this takes a significant weight off of LeBron’s shoulders and allows him to still play incredibly well but also allows him to fully focus on getting his body, mind, and soul ready for the playoff run.
At that time LeBron can potentially take the reins back from Davis and show him how to win a championship.
LeBron’s full focus is on winning rings. Look for Anthony Davis’ play to reach new heights after the All-Star break.
