1. Larger Role
The number one thing Darren Collison should be looking at while making his decision on who to sign with is who can offer him the largest role. This prerequisite should help put the Lakers in prime position to sign the veteran guard.
The Los Angeles Clippers have plenty of guys on their roster that Collison would be sharing time with. They already have Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams playing point guard, which in theory reduces the need for a player like Darren Collison. When Lou Williams is on the floor he provides the Clippers instant offense and a deadly pick-and-roll game next to Montrezl Harrell. It would be hard to see a lineup where both Collison and Williams would be able to share the court at the same time.
The Lakers, on the other hand, are extremely thin at the point guard position. When LeBron James heads to the bench, the team does not have a legitimate scoring threat. They also do not have anybody that can help distribute the ball to get other guys shots. Darren Collison will be capable of doing both.
Collison could expect to take most of Rajon Rondo’s minutes in addition to giving LeBron James some additional rest as the Lakers look towards the playoffs. The pairing of the Los Angeles Lakers and Darren Collison has the potential to be a match made in heaven.
