You were the first to break the news that J.R. Smith was in Lakers rumors to workout with the Lakers. What are JR’s chances?
Scoop B. Robinson:
"Yes. Thankfully it all checked out. The intel that I had gotten was before the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven other passengers. That said, I’m told the Lakers were about a week and a half behind on plans of that sort. In the end, you hope for J.R. it works out. He’s still a solid shooter who has rapport and familiarity with LeBron James and Lakers’ assistant coach, Phil Handy. Just as a reminder, this is still an audition has zero guarantees and to directly answer your question, It depends on what the Los Angeles Lakers are looking for."
Well as you can see here, Smith is getting himself prepared for the workout. Smith has been working out all along like Carmelo Anthony did before he got signed by the Portland Trail Blazers.
Like Anthony, J.R. sends out videos of his workouts on social media keeping teams abreast of his workout regiments and progress.

For the Rich Paul conspirators, it will be noted that like Lakers players LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Talen Horton-Tucker, J.R. is represented by Rich Paul and Klutch Sports.
It also bears mentioning that Smith watched a Lakers game with from courtside seats earlier this year. Lake Show Life brought up the possibility of J.R. being in a Lakers uniform before the season started as well as Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes.

Sure a J.R. Smith signing will be unpopular, but Lake Show Life deals with facts. Smith won an NBA title with LeBron James back in 2016. He didn’t just put on a uniform and stand on the floor as a cardboard cutout. He actually was a major contributor to the comeback in Game 7.
People want to remember the LeBron James block on Andre Iguodala. People want to remember the Kyrie Irving shot over Stephen Curry to win the NBA Finals. Those are superstars that made the plays they are required to make.
These plays don’t matter if Smith doesn’t get hot in the third quarter. The Cavs were down at halftime. Smith’s huge baskets cut into the Warriors lead, getting Cleveland back into the game.
