Los Angeles Lakers: 3 Players who must improve after All-Star break
By Nick Ziegler
– JaVale McGee
As we head into the final stretch of the season, one of the players that the Lakers could use a little more from is JaVale McGee. Since coming to the Lakers, McGee has been really good for Los Angeles. However, as of late, McGee has slipped a tad in his production.
The combination of Dwight Howard and McGee has been great this season, but it has been Howard who has separated himself from McGee. In the last 10 games, McGee is averaged just 15.8 minutes per game.
In the last four games, McGee has scored just four points in each game. The slip in production from McGee has resulted in Vogel turning to Howard more.
With the second half of the season here, it will be interesting to see if McGee falls out of the starting lineup and possibly the rotation. With Howard playing well, he could easily see himself move into the starting lineup soon.
Since the Lakers have some options in the frontcourt, McGee’s spot in the lineup isn’t guaranteed. The Lakers could use Davis more at center at the end of the season and in the playoffs. If that’s the case, McGee will likely have his role really diminished. Hopefully, the break will help McGee regroup and recharge, as the long season can wear a big man down.
