5. Lakers sign Dion Waiters
The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked to just about every available free-agent since it was reported that retired guard Darren Collison would not be joining a team this season. The most glaring weakness that hinders Los Angeles, currently, is the lack of a secondary ball-handler.
When LeBron James sits, the Lakers offense is simply not good. The Lakers are being outscored by 2.9 points per 100 possessions when James is off the court, the only player on the team with a negative off-the-court rating. Insert Dion Waiters.
Is he LeBron James? No. However, he can handle the ball and, theoretically, defend elite wings come playoff time. Waiters also shot 47 percent from 3-point range in limited appearances this season, prior to getting traded from the Heat and waived by Memphis.
Furthermore, Waiters is a former Rob Pelinka client and a current Klutch Sports client, so the ties may be there already.
