Los Angeles Lakers: Dion Waiters vs. JR Smith
The Verdict: J.R. Smith
The fact of the matter is, the Lakers’ goal is not to win in the regular season. Their goal is to bring that elusive 17th NBA title back to LA.
Evaluating J.R. Smith and Dion Waiters, the most important question is, which player could the Lakers count on in the postseason if need be?
The answer to that question is, without a doubt, J.R. Smith. He has been to the playoffs before and is an NBA champion. Smith knows how to play in an offense that is centered around LeBron James and can, really, conceivably help the Lakers win a championship.
The same can’t be said about Dion Waiters. It just is not certain if Waiters can be counted on or not. If not on a flight to Los Angeles from Phoenix in the first quarter of the season, then certainly not on the biggest stage.
If Smith can provide similar production from behind the arc for the Lakers that he did in Cleveland, he could be huge off the bench for LAL.
