1. Danny Green
The Los Angeles Lakers’ biggest free-agent signing this season was Danny Green. The team knew what they were getting with him, as his track record speaks for itself. However, he could see his minutes cut back a little bit with Dion Waiters in town.
Green has had some ebbs and flows this season, but that is expected with his style of play. As a 3-point specialist and defender, he could go five games without scoring double-figures and then go a week where he knocks down 55 percent of his 3-pointers.
That style of play will sometimes frustrate fans, but Green is one of the best playoff and NBA Finals performers we have seen in recent history.
However, if he doesn’t find some consistency with his performance, his minutes could start going to Waiters to deliver a spark. Waiters may not have the defensive chops that Green has, but he would bring a more versatile offensive game. If Waiters knocks down 36.8 percent of his 3-pointers with the Lakers as he did with the Heat, that would be more than acceptable.
While Green was the player picked for this slide, all of the Lakers’ shooting guards have been put on notice. Avery Bradley and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will also have to continue playing well to hold off Waiters from taking their minutes once games resume, if they ever do.
