By the time LeBron James played with Shaq, it was over.

Shaquille O’Neal made a statement in his introductory press conference when he got to Cleveland. He said that his goal was to win a ring for the King. It just didn’t happen despite being productive during their only season as teammates.

The two former first overall picks did not have enough as Shaq averaged 12 points and seven rebounds during his season with the Cavs while also appearing in 11 postseason games. With a roster with the likes of Delonte West, J.J. Hickson and Anderson Varejao it was plain to see the Cavs needed Shaquille’s numbers in Orlando and LA.

The fact that Shaquille O’Neal had the opportunity to shine with these players over a long period is enough. But how did he compare the players? Here’s what he said to Scoop B. Robinson.

"Penny was a young Magic Johnson and I was a young Kareem. Kobe was a young Michael Jordan before he became Michael Jordan. And LeBron is both of them combined. And D-Wade was Kobe when he was coming into his own. I’ll just put it like that."
