Los Angeles Lakers: Three teams to dump Rajon Rondo to
By Jason Reed
1. Detroit Pistons
Derrick Rose was the biggest name that Laker fans wanted to see the team trade for during the NBA Trade Deadline but it ultimately was not meant to be. Rose continued his great season with the Detroit Pistons and the frustrations around Rondo continued.
You could make the case that Rose would not be as successful in Los Angeles as he would run into the same problems that Rondo is currently running into with LeBron being as ball-dominant as he is.
However, Rose is still the more athletic and talented player, so it makes sense to upgrade from Rondo to Rose is the price is right. It is not a long-term commitment, as he is a free agent after the 2020-2021 season, so the only real question becomes the cost.
Perhaps it is a deal that sees Rondo and Kuzma sent to Detroit for Rose, which is not as crazy as it sounds. While some are hesitant to trade Kuzma because of his age, he is going to be a free agent after the 2020 season and the Lakers might lose him anyway.
The team would essentially be flipping two one-year players that are not great fits for a more talented one-year player. From there, the Lakers could replace Kuzma with a much better fit either internally (Markieff Morris), or in the draft.
The Pistons do not really need Rondo. The deal would be getting a young asset for one year of Rose, with Rondo just strung along.
