Los Angeles Lakers: The most likely drafted position in 2020 NBA Draft
By Jason Reed
4. Small forward
Take everything I said about the power forward position and apply it here to the small forward position. While there is a difference between the two positions, in an era of basketball where positions are not as concrete, the Lakers have the exact same outlook at small forward than they do at power forward.
Kuzma being traded could open the door for the team to sign or draft someone to split time between the small forward and power forward positions, being a reliable three-point shooter or defender in the process.
The one thing that makes small forward more likely than power forward, though, is that the Lakers could be a smaller, more mobile player to be a wing defender off the bench, even if they were not going to trade Kuzma.
It is not all that likely, but if the team does not think it can add a good defensive wing in free agency then I would not rule out selecting one in the 2020 NBA Draft.
With LeBron essentially playing the point guard position that small forward would get more minutes than a drafted power forward would and theoretically would be taking the minutes that went to Morris after being signed.
Both Danny Green and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope can essentially serve as second-option small forwards, but with Kyle Kuzma being a traditional three and Dion Waiters not even playing a minute with the Lakers, the team could potentially use depth at the position.
I think it is more likely that the Lakers target the frontcourt, however.
