Los Angeles Lakers superstar target: Kyrie Irving
Replacing a former Cleveland Cavalier 1st overall draft pick in LeBron James with a former Cleveland Cavalier 1st overall draft pick in Kyrie Irving? Makes sense.
It wasn’t out of the realm of possibility that Kyrie, AD, and LeBron could have been teammates this past off-season.
The Lakers had sufficient room to land Kyrie, they had reached out to Kyrie regarding his interest in signing with LeBron and the Lakers, the Lakers were met with a respectful no and were informed that Kyrie would be teaming up with Kevin Durant in Brooklyn.
While Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant have the potential to be something special in Brooklyn, things could also go wrong quickly.
If you were to pick 2 of the most ball-dominant scorers in the NBA, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving would be in everyone’s top 5.
It is going to be very interesting to see how they mesh together if things go wrong, you have two very outspoken and clashing personalities.
With the Summer of 2022 in mind, the KD and Kyrie experiment will have potentially run its course.
If the Lakers can clear the cap space for Kyrie Irving in 2022, you do it and pursue him hard.
He will be only 30 years of age meaning that you get him for some of the best years of his entire career. He is good friends with Anthony Davis meaning that they already have chemistry together. Unlike Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis isn’t an in your face/extremely vocal player who will rub Irving the wrong way.
Kyrie and AD would potentially be an incredibly dynamic duo.
With Kyrie being a killer from the 3-point line and Davis is a monster inside, they would have the ideal inside out game that would be next to impossible to stop when clicking.
Add some help defenders and 3-point shooters around these two guys and you are going to have a team that is going to be incredibly hard to beat.
No point guard can contain Kyrie Irving and no power forward or center can stop Anthony Davis.
Having both of these players in their prime would be a scary proposition. If the Lakers could add a third star to that roster alongside Davis and Irving ( potentially LeBron James if he is willing to take a pay-cut), they would be unstoppable.
