The NBA again takes the lead in dealing with social issues.

Several NBA players have recently taken part in the protests around the country fighting for justice for George Floyd’s family and other social issues. The major spark was started by former NBA veteran Stephen Jackson who recently marched with Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter, Gianna.

76ers star Tobias Harris, Knicks point guard Dennis Smith Jr., Heat forward Udonis Haslem and various Warriors players opted to take the streets to voice out their anger over recent events. The underrated superstar in the movement has been Boston Celtics forward, Jaylen Brown who drove 15 hours to Atlanta to protest along with Indiana Pacers guard, Malcolm Brogdon.

The fight hasn’t stopped with just the players. The NBCA (National Basketball Coaches Association) established a committee on racial injustice and reform.

Statement from ESPN.

"“Witnessing the murder of George Floyd in cold blood and in broad daylight has traumatized our nation, but the reality is that African Americans are targeted and victimized on a daily basis. As NBA coaches, we cannot treat this as an isolated incident of outrage. “We are committed to working in our NBA cities with local leaders, officials and law enforcement agencies to create positive change in our communities. We have the power and platform to affect change, and we will use it.”"
