Some media writers and analysts have stepped over the line.
Look, Kyrie Irving does look at things a lot differently from the other NBA players. Okay, he looks at things differently from most people. This is the dude that actually claimed the world was flat. On camera. Then followed up on the claim.
Despite his “beliefs”, he’s still one of the VPs of the Players Union and it’s his job to bring up difficult conversations that are very unpopular to many. The media happens to be one of the factions that weigh in on these issues.
This is not the way that you express disappointment over someone’s views in a professional manner.
Let’s break this message down and show the ridiculousness of this message. Kyrie Irving is basically doing his job bringing up challenges that could bring harm to the players that he represents. It is now reported that there are close to 100 players that share his concerns. But Kyrie is worried about LeBron James winning a title? Let’s see here…
- Pandemic going on with COVID-19 cases spiking.
- Social unrest and black men are getting killed all over the country.
- According to Jason McIntyre of Fox Sports, Irving just wants to keep LeBron James from winning a title like it’s a foregone conclusion.
Really? No, think about it, REALLY?!!!
Then there’s Kendrick Perkins. It’s clear that he’s pro-LeBron and extremely anti-Kyrie. Perk basically blasted Irving on ESPN’s Get Up about Kyrie Irving’s lack of leadership regarding this situation. It wasn’t kind.
"“If you take Kyrie Irving’s brain and put it in a bird right now, guess what that bird is going to do? It’s going to fly backwards. Because Kyrie right now, he’s confused. He’s showing his lack of leadership. Here it is, Kyrie. You have been at these conference calls during the past two months. You’re the Vice President of the players’ association. You have been very involved in all of this that has taken place for us, whether or not we’re gonna play or not. You’ve been on the phone and you have voted to play,”"
Then he went to social media. The tweet is shown here because this is a family website.
Kevin Durant did not take the statements very well. He called Perkins a “sell-out”.
Here’s the worst example. Misinformation.
Stefan Bondy sent out a tweet that Kyrie Irving proposing the players starting their own league. Irving’s teammate Theo Pinson quickly dispelled that statement and soon after reports came out that this proposal was false. Bondy sent out another tweet trying to clarify but the game was over by that point. People didn’t buy it.
