4. Chris Paul – Professor Ratigan (Basil the Great Mouse Detective)
Why he’s a Laker villain
Part of Chris Paul’s Laker villainhood depends on whether you believe Rajon Rondo or not. For context, while playing for the Houston Rockets Chris Paul eye-gouged Rondo after Rondo allegedly spat at him.
From the slow-motion replay, it did appear that saliva did leave Rondo’s mouth, but he adamantly denied deliberately spitting, making some strong points to back up his claim.
Even if you believe Chris Paul was completely innocent during spit-gate, he has nonetheless become a bit of a villain across the wider NBA. He attempted to break into a rival locker room after a game to fight, snitched to referees about an untucked jersey to win a game, and will regularly get into altercations with referees whilst simultaneously seldom being called for technical fouls.
Why I chose this villain to represent him
Despite his utter unlikeability, Chris Paul is admittedly one of the most intelligent players in the entire league. Professor Ratigan not only has a claim to being the most intelligent villain in the Disney universe but has seen success with some of his nefarious schemes, most notably the “Big Ben Caper” and the “Tower Bridge Job”. Much like Ratigan, Chris Paul has had a lot of personal success in his Hall-of-Fame career, although neither has achieved their ultimate goal.
In terms of his personality, the Disney Fandom wiki describes Professor Ratigan as “very charismatic, calm, suave and calculating”, which for the most part is a perfect description for Chris Paul. Ratigan’s trigger is any mention of Basil, while CP3’s is any perceived slight at the hands of an officiating crew, but for the most part, they’re both very charming and in-control.
Finally, at a mere 6’0″, Chris Paul’s stature is considered “rodent-esque” when compared to his incredibly tall peers. To that end, there’s no better Disney villain fit for him than an actual rat, making Professor Ratigan the perfect choice.
