LeBron James isn’t impressed with the new name of the Washington Football Team.
LeBron James is currently gearing up for the Los Angeles Lakers‘ return to the hardwood on Thursday as the team kickstarts its action in the Orlando bubble with a scrimmage against the Dallas Mavericks. However, that did not stop LeBron from commenting on the new name of the Washington Football Team.
It was reported on Thursday morning that Washington would simply be referring to itself as the “Washington Football Team” as a placeholder name until the team could name a new mascot.
LeBron James, waking up from his pre-game nap in the Orlando bubble, took a tongue-in-cheek stab at the placeholder name, specifically the creativity that it took to come up with the name.
This is the first time that LeBron, who is typically very outspoken in the sports world, especially when it comes to social justice and civil rights, is commenting on the Washington Football Team. Washington owner Dan Synder announced that the team would be retiring its previous name and logo on July 13.
Let’s also not forget that LeBron James is a fan of Washington’s biggest rival, the Dallas Cowboys.
Potential new names for the Washington Football Team:
There are several frontrunner mascot names that have been suggested but nothing is yet official. The Washington Warriors is one, as Synder actually filed a trademark application for the name in 2000 with an interest of bringing an Arena Football League team to Washington. He abandoned that trademark.
The Washington Red Wolves is another fan-favorite that has been making rounds in the internet, but the best suggestion, personally, is the Washington Red Tails. The Red Tails nickname would be honoring the Tuskegee Airmen that flew in World War II, who were the first African-American aviators in the United States Air Force.
It would be a name that honors great individuals from United States’ history, playing hand-in-hand with the team being in the Nation’s Capital.
Whichever name the Washington Football Team picks as their next name it will probably be more welcomed by LeBron James than their current placeholder name, because at least by then there will be some sort of creativity that the current new name lacks.
