Conference and NBA Finals

Western Conference Finals: Lakers vs Clippers

Staples Center should be rocking and rolling for the first-ever playoff series between its two basketball tenants. But, alas, the games will be played 2,500 miles away in Florida.

In their first appearance in a conference final, the Clippers want to prove they belong. They have perhaps the game’s best all-around player in Leonard, a second star in George and the NBA’s deepest roster.

The Los Angeles Lakers counter with AD and LBJ, and hopefully supporting cast members like Kyle Kuzma, Danny Green, Alex Caruso and Dion Waiters rise to the occasion. James’ leadership and the Lakers’ mystique might provide enough of an advantage to tip the series their way.

Eastern Conference Finals: Bucks vs Celtics

Giannis Antetokounmpo, the likely regular-season MVP, will be counted on to lead his squad to the promised land. But the question is whether his Milwaukee teammates are ready to follow him.

The Celtics quartet of Tatum, Walker, Brown and Hayward seem to be peaking at the right time. Logic says this is as far as they go, but somehow it seems they just might pull off the upset.

NBA Finals: Lakers vs Celtics

The biggest rivals in professional sports meet once again in the Finals for an unprecedented 13th time. Boston won the first 8 match-ups, mostly in the 1960s. But starting in 1985, the Lakers have won three of the last four times they’ve faced-off, including a dramatic Game 7 victory in 2010.

That was the last year either team advanced to the Finals. If indeed they resume their rivalry in this year’s Finals, the result should be the same as the Lakers tie Boston for the most NBA titles, 17.
