Dwight Howard: Stay

Here is a fun fact that you can present to your Laker fan friends if you did not notice it while watching the game on Sunday: the last shot made of a Los Angeles Lakers title-winning season was a Dwight Howard three-point shot.

If I would have told you that the Lakers were winning the NBA Title and Dwight Howard would make the last shot — and it would be a three — back in July then you would have thought I was the craziest writer in the FanSided network.

You could definitely make the case that Howard could call it a career after this but I really do think he has found the perfect home in Los Angeles. This is a place where he understands his role, respects the coaching staff and his teammates and can find his place for the last 2-3 years of his career as a veteran depth center.

He has shown that he can still contribute off the bench and is a hugely important piece in the regular season to provide depth down low. However, even when he was not adding much to the box score in the NBA Playoffs, he took up the Lance Stephenson-Pacers role, really flustering Nikola Jokic in the Western Conference Finals.

I think Howard ends his career as a Laker, just not yet. He will be back on a veteran minimum contract.
