Trade scenario #3:

This trade is similar to the first trade package but with some moving parts. The constants in the trade are Rose and Kuzma and the reasoning behind them being in the trade does not change. The parts around them have their own reasons for both sides.

For the Pistons, instead of getting a future second-round pick they might like the young talent that the Lakers have on the roster. Talen Horton-Tucker is an extremely young guard that might not get a chance to contribute much on the Lakers in the coming years while Detroit presents a place for him to get playing time.

Devontae Cacok tore up the NBA G League and is a big that the Pistons could try and mold into a bench player. The Los Angeles Lakers would have to sign Cacok to an NBA contract this offseason to make this happen but that is not a hurdle whatsoever.

On top of Rose, the Lakers would be getting a second-round pick in next year’s draft. Ironically, it is the second-round pick that the team included with Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk in the Reggie Bullock trade.

That pick could be important as it would give the Lakers ammo to swap a second-round pick next year (plus more future assets down the line) for a second-round pick this year. This would be applicable if the Lakers either trade their first-round pick or are targeting someone they really like in the second round this year.
