1. Point guard

LeBron James might act as the Los Angeles Lakers point guard when he is on the floor but the team still needs depth at the position. Rondo testing free agency could be a huge loss for the team and the possibility of Avery Bradley not playing next season, or opting out of his contract, is worrisome.

If Rondo signs elsewhere and Bradley does not play/signs elsewhere then the Lakers will not have a single traditional point guard on the roster and even Bradley is far from the traditional sense. Again, Alex Caruso essentially is a point guard but I like him more as a defensive two-guard rather than someone who takes the ball up the court.

There are options in the league, though. Someone like Goran Dragic would be a great signing for the Lakers and the Derrick Rose trade rumors do exist. Even with both of those options, though, the Los Angeles Lakers should not balk at the opportunity to draft a promising young point guard.

Tre Jones is someone to keep an eye on if he falls to the Lakers at 28. He is absolutely someone who could make a difference on the bench right away and develop into a starting-caliber point guard.

Even someone like Theo Maledon, who has played the last three seasons in the EuroLeague, could be an option as a more polished secondary shot creator.

The point guard and shooting guard position could flip-flop based on Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley, but right now, point guard seems like a bigger need.
