2. Leandro Bolmaro

There are plenty of different routes that the Los Angeles Lakers can take in the 2020 NBA Draft. One route that several different outlets think the Lakers will go is the international route, taking FC Barcelona’s Leandro Bolmaro with the 28th overall pick.

Both NBADraft.Net and NBC Sports have Bolmaro going to the Lakers with the 28th overall pick. There are shades of potential there with Bolmaro but he does not fit what the Lakers need in this year’s draft.

The Lakers need someone who can contribute at the NBA level right away and Bolmaro simply is not that prospect. He was not getting much playing time in the EuroLeague as is and would be a project for the Lakers.

The last thing that the Lakers need is another young shooting guard project when they already have Talen Horton-Tucker on the roster.

The team needs someone who can contribute right away on both ends of the court, providing decent defense and at least the ability to be an off-ball shooter. You are going to get that out of someone with 3-4 years of college experience, not from a 19-year-old with little playing time in the EuroLeague.

Bolmaro very well could be a very talented player in several years, but he reeks of someone who a worse team should pick and try to develop, not someone who a contending team should pick and try to play right away.

We get the intrigue in international talent as it can be exciting. However, in this case, it is scary.
