Darren Collison

Darren Collison is a name that has been floated around the Lakers round table for quite some time. Last season he was a candidate of both the Lakers and the rival Clippers midseason. He chose to stay retired at that time.

But now with the offseason, it could be time to see where Collison is at again, mentally and physically. It is very likely if he decides to play again, the only two options remain the same.

He is very comfortable in Los Angeles and played his college ball at UCLA. So it could come down to who provides a better opportunity for him. Money shouldn’t be a factor, as he’s given up large amounts in the past to retire and stay retired.

Collison would be a huge pickup if the Lakers could get him. Although he took last year off, he’s still 33 years old and could look to join the team for a chance at a ring. He could play a good-sized role in helping the team achieve that as well.

Collison is also a very smart player and manages the game well from the point guard position. He limits his turnovers because he is not careless with the ball and is a good passer. His career assists/turnovers ratio is 2.5/1.

The Lakers would get a player that is a good shooter and driver. His career soothing like is 47.1/39.4/85.3. His 2017/18 season was phenomenal as he shot a blistering line of 49.5/46.8/88.2, all elite numbers.

It remains to be seen if Collison comes out of retirement. But this would be one of the best signings of the offseason if he does. Even with a year off, you could expect Collison to jump right in and contribute to this team.
