Anthony Davis needs two championships and two contracts to pass Jerry West for fifth all-time
Jerry West is literally the logo of the NBA and fits in nicely as the fifth-greatest Lakers player of all-time. West made the NBA Finals nine times in his 14-year career with the Lakers but could only be on the winning side of the last game of the season once.
Davis only needs one more championship to pass West in that department but he is going to need to put in more time to definitively pass him on this list. Two championships is great and all but it would not be enough in only five years to pass West.
Instead, Davis would essentially need to agree to a second contract extension with the Lakers. That could put him anywhere from nine to 11 years, depending on how he handles the options and then two championships would be more than enough to surpass West.
Anthony Davis needs three championships and three contracts to pass Shaquille O’Neal or four championships and two contracts
If Anthony Davis wins three championships in 9-11 years with the Los Angeles Lakers then that puts him close to a dead tie with Shaquille O’Neal for fourth all-time. I would still give the nod to Shaq as he had three Finals MVPs and a league MVP during his tenure.
However, if Davis spends 13-15 years of his career (which essentially would take him to the end of his career) with the Lakers and wins three championships then the longevity would be enough to give him the edge.
Or, if he leaves the Lakers after spending 9-11 years with the team he would have to win four championships to secure his spot on the Lakers’ Mount Rushmore over Shaq.
