2. Ian Mahinmi

Ian Mahinmi would be a good backup to the newly added Marc Gasol. He is a defensive first center who has played on some really good teams. He has turned his career into over $83 million in earnings.

Because of that, he could be a candidate to take the veteran minimum in a good situation. Although he hasn’t had his best seasons lately. When he’s been on good teams, he has provided positive results on the defensive end.

His DBPM and defensive win shares have always been in the positive range. Teams will have trouble going from Gasol to Mahinmi on the defensive end. There would be no easy buckets being allowed in the paint.

This would be more of a tough duo than an athletic one that was seen with Howard and McGee. But the advanced stats will show this duo would be better on the defensive end, not allowing points.

His offense will get a boost and this is good value on the veteran minimum.
