Why the Los Angeles Lakers should bring back Pau Gasol
By Brad Magsam
1. The fairytale ending
With the end of Pau Gasol’s accomplished career in sight, it would be great to see it finish with a championship with the team he’d won two with previously. To be able to do it alongside his brother, Marc, would add to the glory.
It appears that Gasol has felt a deeper connection to the Los Angeles Lakers following the sudden death of close friend Kobe Bryant. Pau has become an enormous part of Vanessa Bryant’s life since the tragedy, helping her and the rest of the Bryant family try and make sense of it all.
Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant were like brothers on and off the court. When Pau and his wife, Catherine, gave birth to their daughter earlier this year, they named her Elisabet Gianna Gasol, honoring Kobe’s daughter Gianna Bryant.
It is nearly certain that Pau Gasol will eventually witness his jersey being hoisted into the rafters of Staples Center. He is truly part of the Los Angeles Lakers family. Without the Spaniard, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers do not win their titles in 2009 or 2010.
To be able to finish his prestigious career with the team that taught him so much would be the ultimate end to a perfect Los Angeles fairytale.
