Los Angeles Lakers: 3 free agent options to help space floor
2. Wayne Ellington
How about a familiar face back to Los Angeles? Wayne Ellington spent one season with the Lakers back in 2015 and shot well for the team at a 37% clip from 3-point range. He’s about 37.8% for his career and has 970 career treys to show his value.
Ellington parlayed his shooting into a nice deal with the New York Knicks. But then they decided to move on under new management as they start to mix things up. Now, with Ellington on the market, he could be a good value for this Lakers team to look at.
He won’t provide much more than shooting. His defense has always been below average with a negative DBPM every year except for one year. But he can help space the floor for small amounts of time.
Not every player on the floor is going to be a plus defender as well. If that were the case, NBA games wouldn’t finish in the high 110’s almost 75% of the time. So getting someone who can help shoot on the bench will help this team get even deeper than it already is.
A veteran minimum candidate here, the value is worth it.
