4. Lakers trade Danny Green, 28th overall pick to Thunder for Dennis Schroder
Last season, when the Los Angeles Lakers signed Danny Green to a two-year, $30 million contract, most fans were thrilled. He was expected to be one of our best defenders, capable of guarding the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and other star wings. But most importantly he was expected to be our deadeye shooter on a team that lacked perimeter shooting.
Green was never able to consistently hit from beyond the arc. At times it became obvious that Danny Green was in his own head, as was evident in his missed game-tying three in game four of the NBA Finals.
With the departure of Rajon Rondo seeming more likely, the Lakers needed to make a move to replace him. They also needed a reliable scorer to relieve some pressure from LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Rob Pelinka struck a deal, seemingly out of nowhere, to send Danny Green and the 28th overall pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Dennis Schroder. Schroder gives the Lakers the type of scorer that they didn’t have last season. He also had a career year from three, something that the Lakers hope can carry over.
