The Los Angeles Lakers have the best fans in the world.
The Los Angeles Lakers can add another award to the mantle — well, Laker fans can, that is.
Laker fans were declared the best sports fans in the latest edition of FanSided 250. Every year, the FanSided network ranks the 250 best fandoms in the entire world. It is more than just sports, though, as things such as television shows, celebrities, movies, athletes and even brands (looking at you, La Croix).
Laker fans were reminded of something that they all already knew: they are the best fans in the world. Period. Some may say otherwise, but the numbers do not lie. Laker fans come out in bunches and they certainly came out in the masses for the NBA Championship this year.
Laker fans have been through a lot this season. While this year is crazy on its own and it ended on a great note for the Lakers, the 2020 year started with a massive loss not just for Laker fans, not just for basketball fans, but for all of humanity.
On January 26, 2020, Laker legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven others passed away in a helicopter crash in Calabasas. Many people became Laker fans because of Kobe Bryant and he was the embodiment of the Laker way. He was the most tireless hard worker in basketball. He was a legend. He will be missed.
Laker fans rallied together in tragedy to prove that they are the best fanbase in the world. Even after the worst stretch in franchise history, Laker fans showed up (even when they couldn’t) to show support for the purple and gold.
It also helps that the Los Angeles Lakers have the biggest superstar in American sports. LeBron James is the face of the NBA and is such a massive superstar that he alone ranked in the top-10 as well.
That is right. I know that diehard Laker fans do not love this select group of Laker fans, but there are certainly some huge LeBron James fans out there, enough that they earned the fourth spot on the FanSided 250.
That is right. LeBron fans ranked higher than 246 other fandoms and that is not even counting those fandoms that did not make this list. It might sound absurd but he has also ushered in a new era of the NBA where fans follow superstars, sometimes more than teams.
Have a celebratory glass of champagne, wine, La Croix (you like that callback?) or whatever you prefer, because Laker fans, you deserve it.
