1. Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets appear to be the most likely team to sign Blake Griffin. The Nets have just been stockpiling superstar assets and as a result, could use as much depth as they can get. While the Lakers are contenders, the Nets probably feel like the safer bet for a buyout player because of AD’s injury.

Marc Stein even said that the Nets are viewed as strong contenders to sign Griffin, largely because of the Nets’ rise and his relationship with players that are on the team. The key here is DeAndre Jordan. Much like Griffin helped convince Jordan to stay with the Clippers, Jordan could convince Griffin to join the Nets.

Griffin’s role with the Nets would be similar to the Lakers. He should get an extended tryout while Kevin Durant is out and even Durant returns he should get a fair number of minutes off the bench to see the fit he presents on the roster.

If it does not work out then it does not work out. The Nets, like the Los Angeles Lakers, won’t really be hurt by it. But if Griffin can even be the same guy that he was two seasons ago then that would be a huge boost to the Nets’ bench.

To me, this is comparable to DeMarcus Cousins joining the Golden State Warriors prior to the 2018-19 season. It makes the most sense for Griffin to simply join the team that already has the most stars.
