Potential Los Angeles Lakers buyout target: Jeff Teague
Much like Avery Bradley, Jeff Teague is a veteran guard who has not been playing that great this season. However, he actually has been playing as he has appeared in 34 games and is averaging 18.1 minutes per game.
The Boston Celtics traded Teague to the Orlando Magic in the Evan Fournier deal and Teague has already been waived by the Magic. At the time of writing this, he has not yet signed with a team.
Point guard is not the first need you think of when you think of the Los Angeles Lakers but this could be a very specific move by Rob Pelinka. LeBron James is expected to miss 4-6 weeks and to help stop the skid the Lakers could look to bring in a second ball-handler to at least partially fill that hole.
Nothing the team adds is even going to come close to replacing LeBron James but this is the one free agent on the market that can bring a veteran presence behind Dennis Schroder and help Schroder operate the offense. This is far from prime Jeff Teague, but he still has the knowledge of what it takes to facilitate in an offense.
Teague has also been shooting decently well this season. He is shooting 46.4% from beyond the arc, albeit in only 1.8 attempts per game, but that is all the Lakers really need off the bench from someone like Teague scoring-wise.
