The Los Angeles Lakers had a defensive scheme and executed it nearly flawlessly!
Aside from all of the fouling and putting the Phoenix Suns on the free throw line or falling asleep at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Lakers couldn’t have played a better defensive game.
The plan by Frank Vogel was to concentrate on freezing out Chris Paul and Devin Booker loading up on defensive pressure and double teams. Man did it work. Booker was frustrated all night long to the point he barely shot the ball at all in the first half.
Chris Paul did not have a chance to get in a rhythm that has made him a late MVP candidate as well. But what they did to Deandre Ayton was just impressive. He looked lost, soft and did not take a shot until the middle of the game.
Outside of Mikal Bridges who started strong and finished with 15 points…
Or Cameron Payne who went absolutely nuts scoring 24 points (9-10 from the field, 4-5 from the land of plenty!)…
The Los Angeles Lakers really held everyone else in check. This game was huge considering if the Lakers make it in the playoffs and matchup with Phoenix in a seven game series, there are schemes that can expose the Suns and slow them down.
The Lakers play the New York Knicks on Tuesday night.
