Los Angeles Lakers: 4 Lessons in series tying win over the Phoenix Suns
By Ronald Agers
The Los Angeles Lakers guards not named Dennis Schroder have a major problem!
Dennis Schroder will be a polarizing figure for Lake Show Life for the rest of the season. After what happened in Game 2, the debate on whether he is the point guard for the future will be put on hold with his 24 point (8-16 shooting!), 3 rebound and 3 assist performance.
While LeBron was sitting in the second quarter, Schroder’s 14 point contribution was a reminder of why the Lakers traded for him in the offseason. Can he keep this up? Who knows?
What the Lake Show Life Lessons staff knows is that the rest of the guards on the roster has to contribute something…ANYTHING!
- Talen Horton-Tucker: 0-2 from the field. Missed all shots from 3 point land. 1 point at halftime. Finished with 1 point.
- Alex Caruso: 0-2 from the field. Missed all shots from 3 point land. 0 points at halftime. Finished with 4 points on 2-5 shooting!
- Wesley Matthews: 0-1 from the field. 0 points at halftime. He finished with 0 points.
- Kyle Kuzma: 2 points on a garbage layup on a loose ball. Series average? One more point than the writer reporting this and the readers looking at it.
- Kentavious Caldwell-Pope: 0-4 from the field. Missed all shots from 3 point land. 0 points at halftime. Finished with 0 points.
With the exception of THT (Nothing shakes that dude!), these players don’t even want to look at the rim to shoot much less shoot. ESPECIALLY KCP!
LeBron James may have actually read these Lessons reports and got tired of Ronald Agers constantly reminding Caldwell-Pope of the job description of the starting shooting guard.
Despite the huge 3 pointer from Gasol (6 points on 2-4 from 3 point land!) and a dunk from Alex Caruso, this is not enough contributions from the supporting cast.
Now, this game doesn’t mean if you let the Lakers tell it. Why? The Lakers need three more victories to win a series. However, this game was a huge building block for the purple and gold. A loss here without Chris Paul in the lineup would have been devastating.
Now, the Lakers need to sweep the next two games at home and work to get the Suns off the radar ASAP.
The next game is on Thursday for a chance to take control of the series in front of Lakers fans for the first time in a very long time!
Lake Show Life has extended its post-game coverage this postseason! There will be short post-game reports shortly after the game in addition to the extended post-game of Lake Show Life Lessons!
