Former all-stars the Los Angeles Lakers could sign: Andre Drummond

While I personally lean towards the Los Angeles Lakers not re-signing Andre Drummond, it certainly is not out of the realm of possibilities. Early rumors state that the front office views Drummond as part of the team’s long-term future, increasing his odds of staying in Los Angeles.

It makes sense for Drummond to be the player they re-sign out of all of the free agents the team has. The Lakers do not really have any long-term plans at the center position and while they have a pick in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft, they may not get instant production out of a rookie center.

The advantage of bringing Drummond back is that he has some experience with the team and while it was a learning curve for him this past season he has that out of the way and would have a head start into next season.

As far as Drummond himself, there is a bit of a concern about his clogging the lane and taking away LeBron’s potential to drive to the rim. But with LeBron getting older he is going to be driving to the cup less in the regular season and the depth that Drummond would provide just for the regular season would be worth it.

If the price is right then re-signing Drummond is not a bad move whatsoever for the Lakers. However, if he gets close to what Tristan Thompson got with the Boston Celtics last offseason then that is too much for LA.
